End Grain Chopping Board, Round with Juice Groove, Macrocarpa

The King of all chopping boards

Preferred by chefs and butchers for centuries, end grain boards make the best surface for chopping and cutting on. The main reason that they are so good is that the wood fibres are standing on end, allowing the knife to sink slightly into the wood without cutting the fibres as it does on a flat grain board. This also makes it much easier on the knife edges so knives will maintain a sharp edge for much longer.

The Juice Groove on a round board

A round board with a juice groove has added benefits to one that is rectangular:

• The groove is wood-turned, making it deeper, for catching very juicy foods
• Due to there not being any corners, the juice is much easier to pour from board to pot for making that mouth watering roast gravy!
• Turn the board over and use the other side as a cheese board, cake stand or for serving pizza
• When upside down use the groove on the base as a handle for carrying the board around, being Macrocarpa, these boards are nice and light for serving food around a function

A little extra TLC

As end grain absorbs and releases moisture much faster than flat grain a little extra maintenance and awareness around looking after your board is required. When you use your board regularly it will become seasoned and well sealed, slowing down the absorption and release of moisture. See below for care instructions.
